So...there will be a little bit of Organization blended in with this post on classroom management.
We all know that Classroom Management is THE MOST IMPORTANT tool that a teacher can have. Without it, the rest of a teacher's job will be an uphill battle. If you don't have the class under control then you can't teach them effectively. But what exactly does that mean? Controlling a class? Sounds so harsh.....and there are some systems that are just that....harsh and punitive.
But what if you could have a CM system that met the following criteria:
1. Positive in Nature
2. Taught Students to work together for a goal.
3. Addressed 100% of your students needs and behaviors.
4. AND THIS IS BIG......IT IS FREE?
Well if I could find a system like that then I just might be in TEACHER HEAVEN! Wait...there is one that exists and perhaps you have heard of it!
No more clip charts, no more color charts, no more...well anything. All you need is a dry erase marker and a white board. Heck you could even get away with just a post it note and a pen!
Whole Brain Teaching CM system is all of the above! The positive nature of the system ensures that beyond #2...individual behavior is addressed in a positive way and allows the teacher new and innovative ways to get them through the entire year. The motto of WBT is "It's a LOOOOOONG year! So you need a big back pocket!"

On to some more management things I use in my classroom! I posted pics of my classroom on my FB page and got alot of questions about my HOMEWORK CLUB! Well finally I am going to explain The Homework Club! I have to admit that I DID NOT create the Homework Club! I wish I had, but the amazing Christina Bainbridge is the one who saved my life with this doozy! You can check out her blog post about the Homework Club here to see how it works.
Now...after you read here blog post on the Homework Club and get here FABULOUS Pack off Teachers Pay Teachers you will be ready for HOMEWORK HEAVEN!
Basically, everyone starts the month off IN THE CLUB! Every morning my students will turn in their homework. Each student has a number in the club (their student number). After I check homework in (sometime before lunch) I will remove anyone from the club that didn't return homework or didn't complete it. I am checking for completed, NEAT, and signed homework. Now I am taking Christina's advice and giving my little Firsties a few "oops" moments but THEY DON'T KNOW THAT! I will also give them time in class to complete the homework...especially for those who have little home support. At the end of the month, if they are still in the club, a special little surprise awaits! Now...stay in the CLUB ALL YEAR and a PIZZA PARTY AWAITS for those amazing students! Simple right! Well you MUST get here pack! It has all the pieces you need to create your club! Check it out on TPT HERE!!!!
Here is mine!
Now...onto some classroom photos!
And to leave you with a little bit of happiness! Today was my first day of school! So how does a WBT Classroom start the year! Well, last year I looped with my kiddos so they already knew ALOT of WBT (at least half the class did, the other half didn't) so we rocked it! I was a little apprehensive about this years class since they had limited knowledge of ANYTHING WBT! When I say limited I mean limited. They new the class/yes but they were not great at it and they new the rules...in theory! They had seen a scoreboard but had VERY LIMITED interaction with it. So to say the least I approached this group like they were bran new! They had NO TEACH/OK experience, in fact, they had never seen it! So after only 1 hour, YES 1 HOUR, this is my amazing FABULOUS FIRSTIES group for 2013-2014. Imagine, if we are doing this well only 1 hour into the day...oh this is going to be a HEAVENLY RIDE!!! Let me add I have 14 GIRLS and only 3 boys! This is the most PRIM and PROPER class I have ever had! I am in LOVE all ready! In fact...as each one left today they each gave me a hug and told me I was the BEST TEACHER EVER...NO LIE!!! I was almost in tears..happy tears. So...here is what our first hour looked like:
Rule Number 1
Scoreboard--practice RULE 1 with the mighty groan and 1 sec party
Rule Number 2--LOTS OF MODELING the WRONG WAY and the RIGHT WAY
Rule 3--Again MODELING the WRONG WAY and the RIGHT WAY
Teach/OK---started with explaining what a FULL TURN MEANT and how fast we were supposed to be. LOTS OF MODELING.
Used the Teach/Ok to review the rules we had DISCUSSED before. NOTE: We had not done the gestures and such with RULE 1 and RULE 2 until the Teach / OK. I just modeled and we brainstormed some ideas about the rules.
Well...I am happy to say that I will be ready to start MONDAY with FULL ON WBT LESSONS! Yep...take a look at these FAB FIRSTIES and tell me they aren't ready for full on WBT lessons!!! OH YEAH!
